US Military Shipments - DPS Data Sharing

As we see the delays that are common each summer moving season, to include the International U.S. Military shipments, how can we encourage our partner the U.S. military to share some of the cumulative data they maintain within their DPS System. For example, if industry had access to even limited data such as Shipment From area and To area locations, Estimated weights and Packing dates the Transportation Service Providers could assimilate this data and provide to their port, trucking and packing/delivery agents in a more transparent manner. This could allow for more efficient allocation of resources at each step of the movement process which could result in less delays due to unexpected volumes and perhaps better management of labor and equipment during increases or decreases in traffic flows. Data can assist us in providing better service so the goal should be to encourage our customer to understand how this can result in better outcomes for their members. I am hopeful we can find a way to communicate this need so the military will assist in the development of a process to gain access to this important data.

    Hi Gordon,

SDDC does provide some limited data for download at their website.  Here is a view of the 2nd quarter International HHG TDL.  There are also data sheets for Domestic and UB.

We are able to use this data to do some data pivots that may get at some of the information you are looking for.  Here are two screen shots which show a sample pivot.  We can pivot the data in many different ways.  The second screen shot shows the detail you get by just double clicking one of the pivot lines.

Let me know if you'd like some information on these...

Thank you for the response. I am aware of this data however, by the time this is posted it is after the fact and too late for the agents and TSP's to arrange resources. Industry really needs to know the flow of traffic on or before the packing dates in order to make adjustments.
